Data and Code for Leaders Who Lose It

This page contains the data used in Chapter 1 and Appendix 2 of Guido Friebel and Paul Seabright: Leaders Who Lose It: Dementia, Power and the Case for an Age Limit, published in January 2027 by Polity Press.

The working dataset we use to generate all Figures in the book is called Archigos_master_datasetJune2026_final.dta. The Stata do-file that generates these Figures (as well as providing diagnostic data about sample sizes etc. for individual Figures), is called Leaders_Who_Lose_It_Plots_Chapter1_Appendix2. The do-file that generates descriptive statistics about the dataset is called Data_descriptives_final.

The datasets will be uploaded here once proof-reading of the manuscript is complete.
